Bill Gates told everyone at Spring Comdex in Atlanta this week that Microsoft will spend $1 billion for Windows NT development in the next year. That's over half the total Ms R&D budget (hard to believe, it doesn't cost that much to copy other companies products). He thinks if they throw enough money at it, it'll be a real OS someday. Microsoft-dependant boot-licker Intel has announced plans to invest another $5 million into C|Net, raising its share of the company to 6%. Guess it's time to add C|Net to the ol' boycott list.. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison & CNN President Ted Turner unveiled the new CNN Custom News service to rival Netscape and Microsoft's new 'content push' services at Comdex this week. When the demonstration didn't work, Ellison blamed it on Windows and Turner blamed it on Netscape. Finally, somebody willing go as low as Microsoft in order to beat them. In related news, Oracle's Network Computer division unveiled NCTV, a competitor to Ms' WebTV. NetPC marketing director Randy Brasche said the new equipment would be more than just "Web-surfing devices" but wouldn't elaborate further. Microsoft is accusing Hong Kong CD company Mei Ah International of abusing trademarks. Ms says Mei Ah's CD-ROM 'Chinemania' title comes too close to their copyrighted 'Cinemania' title. As we've said before, if Microsoft can't buy or beat it, they sue it. |
