Microsoft announced that they will buy a $1 billion share of Comcast. they will own roughly 12% of the 4th largest US cable company, which also provides cellular service and owns 57% of QVC. Millions of Comcast customers can now say goodbye to CNN and hello to MSNBC. Billy, can you spell monopoly? In semi-related news, Microsoft still has another $8 billion or so laying around. I'll make a MSBC News prediction and say this isn't the last large buyout we'll be reporting in here this Summer. Netscape's next generation web browser, Communicator, goes on sale in a matter of hours. In retaliation, Microsoft announced that the next version of their virus-like browser will be released in the next 45 days, for all platforms except Unix and in several different languages. Of course, we will be reporting new bugs in that version for several months following that release. Not to worry, if Ms says it'll be here in 45 days, it wont be longer than 6 months before it really is. A new Microsoft parody site, microsoftnetwork.com, was shut down before it ever began. Reportedly, Ms mentioned their opinion of the new site to the ISP it was on, and it was promptly shut down. When asked for comment, the ISP said "we didn't need that hassle." Nice to see freedom of speech is still being upheld in the 'global community.' When Ms buys the government in a few years, our lives will be so much better (as long as you think of censorship and no privacy as good things). |
